The reason we use Google search is to find the solution to a problem we are currently facing. But sometimes the first page of results is populated with short articles that are not too helpful.

Imagine reading content that looks at a problem from all angles and solves it in ways you never thought of. And the level of detail is just insane. Let's take 2 websites for example:

A - a general, magazine-style blog that includes articles from various niches: Health, Food, DIY, Kids, etc.

B - the blog of a single person who happens to be, say, a nurse who works with children, and who only talks about child care.

If both websites publish an almost identical article, assuming that the websites are also identical in terms of link and on-page profile, then the article published on the nurse blog, will outperform the one published in the magazine, as the content of the nurse blog is more correlated than the other.

Another: If you are a photographer and suddenly decide to write about your hobby, knitting socks, on your photography website, that might not be the best idea, right?

So it's important to write content around the areas where you are an expert, considered an authority, and how you do that triggers the trust factor, both from a content and user experience perspective.

Content marketing is an ongoing process. It's critical to publish content, but it's also meaningful to revise the old content and make sure it's still relevant by updating it.

You might think that such a task is unproductive, but you are so wrong. Studies show that updated old content performs much better than new content. You can even double the traffic of an old page if you update it properly.

Again, this is a no-brainer, but still such an underrated tactic. As we mentioned earlier, your blog categories act as content hubs. The problem with them is that they automatically show content from your blog posts. This could lead to cannibalization issues as the same content appears multiple times on the site.

To fix this problem and help these sites actually have a chance to rank well, they need unique content.

The way we do this in WordPress is we go to each category and add a unique description. This is the basic thing that we do.

We check if the content matches the search intent of the target keyword of your article. This is crucial because if your page does not meet the user intent, it will not rank.

There are 3 types of search intentions:

  • informational(ex: "how to knit socks")
  • transactional(e.g.: "handmade socks amazon")
  • commercial(ex: "mailchimp review")
  • navigational(ex: "starbucks near me")

So my advice to you would be that before you write any content for a keyword you've researched, check the search results to see what Google is showing for that keyword and match your content with the same user intent.

A clear case, isn't it? Nevertheless, many people accidentally end up with 2 H1s on the same page.

Why is this important? Well, heading 1 can help search engines understand what the page is about.

As a good practice, we should match the H1 with the meta title set for the page.
